The Greeley West girls softball team’s four-game winning streak came to a screeching halt in an error-filled performance against Poudre on Saturday afternoon at the Greeley/Evans Youth Sports Complex. The Spartans fell 14-1 in five innings.
The Spartans took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when freshman Ellyse Hydock drove in fellow freshman Brenna Sandoval, who had walked, with a single past the shortstop. Then, the Spartans offense disappeared and they mustered just one more baserunner in the game.
Poudre broke open a close ball game in the fourth inning with a 10-spot, aided by four Spartan errors and highlighted by a Morgan Bay’s home run. The Impalas took advantage of the reeling defense, stealing three bases and dropping down multiple bunts to reach base.
The Spartans dropped to 5-4 overall after the non-league game. Next up will be a pair of road games on Tuesday and Thursday against Holy Family and Mead, respectively.
